An iFly GPS 720 came with an airplane that I bought.

It powers up, and all the menus are functional, but it doesn't appear to work for anything practical.

Everything I do is returned with a popup that says, "Can not find the program".

I was able to reload the OS via a SD card, but that didn't change anything.

If this is something that can be useful, I'd sure like to give it a try.  It's dated 2011, so it's old (but not as old as my airplane!)

Suggestions...?  Or just toss it...?

The iFly program is on a SD card that needs to remain in the device to work.  I would suggest you call iFly support and see what they say.  Can you contact the old owner and find out if he's still got an active subscription, or the SD card with the program and map information on it.

I would imagine that most folks on here will say you should keep it, since many of us are using a 720 or 740.

Why?

The iFly is VERY daylight readable.

The yearly map subscrptions are reasonably priced.

The iFly team is quick to solve problems, and constantly upgrading the device.

One other item I really like is that it works with a remote control.  Which means can keep the remote on a tether around my neck, and acknowledge alerts from "arar" instead of reaching over and trying to push a video button on the screen, perhaps several times.

Despite the "old" age, it can still run the latest software, can connect to most, if not all ADS-B IN devices as well.

As a long time user, i would suggest updating the 720 to the latest software and then learn to use it. It's the most intuitive gps on the market. But, if you simply don't want it, you can deposit it to my mailbox. I'll even pay shipping.

Hi Patrick - congrats on joining us!

So it sounds like you could have a corrupted SD card. I'd be happy to help you out and get it fixed. Also want to let you know we're running a trade in offer, 125 off a 740b (475 net) with the 720 trade in program we're running.

We also offer the 740b on sale at 525 through the end of July.

Both can be purchased with a special offer for data - 16 months for the price of 12.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the replies.  I'm evaluating iFly on an iPad that I carry in my Grumman.

So far, so good.

Am considering the 740b.  I like the idea of sunlight readability a lot.  My iPad is weak in that regard.
