Speaking of old 720's or even 700's. Any way to jailbreak a 720 that's been replaced by a 740b?  It's basically a Windows CE device. I'd like to repurpose it and try to run some glider specific software on it.

The short answer is, "Of course you can."  The device is not "locked" or otherwise hobbled to prevent you from doing so.  (At least, I don't think it is.)

The longer answer is, "Of course you can, but it won't be easy."  WinCE is an OS that was intended for use by OEMs in embedded devices, not a consumer-level OS like Windows.  It's also obsolete.  That means you're not likely to find a large, easy to navigate ecosystem of WinCE tools, drivers, apps, and folks available to offer help in support of your project like you might if you were working with a modern and well-supported and/or open source platform.

To change the way the device boots, you'd need to flash new firmware with the OS and device-specific drivers, set to launch the WinCE app(s) at bootup or a user interface to present you with those apps.

You're likely to find that the effort involved to figure out how to do all that is not worth it.

It's worth a shot.  If I brick it I brick it.  I run http://www.lk8000.it/about.html on a CE PNA now.  It's a fantastic piece of software (Glider specific - not in competition with iFly in any way).  I'd love to get it on a larger screen CE device. Strangely there are lots of new Windows CE based devices out there in the soaring community (e.g. openvario etc.) but I'd rather try to use what I have sitting around. Your "won't be easy" comment is my take too and exactly why I thought I'd start by reaching out to see if anyone else had already done so.

Hello Patrick, Just to let you know, I still use my iFly 700 for back up and it still is great for navigation and back up for my 740.
