Almost all, if not all of the data is from another source such as FAA, etc. I doubt any of the data originates from Adventure Pilot. How would Adventure Pilot filter FAA data to determine what has changed and what has not changed? Maybe you need to upgrade your internet plan.

OK, I went ahead a did the download. Most of the 400+MB were "Geographical databases".

You are making a good point. Would be nice if FAA would provide deltas in addition to complete replacement files.

It's odd to me that they don't, if that is really the case.

Finn,

They don't give us the deltas, we have to determine that on the fly, as it could be a new app install, update, forced repair, etc. Good feedback here!

Actually, it says 400+mb download, but you probably noticed it went pretty fast. In the update process, it will skip many files in the databases. Although the initial download size may say 450+mb, what your data carrier actually sees and charges you with will be less, due to skipping these files. I confirmed this with Brian. You can test it by touching Force Database Refresh and it will finish very fast. We have it on our discussion to look into the to more accurately depict the "net" download size.

There is some basic logic there but it's to keep the update process simplified. I don't think this applies to the charts as there are downloaded as a hole chart, not just portions. It will only update the new charts in a selected state, not all over again.

I confirm what Shane is saying here. The 437MB is simply the full-size of the core databases. There are about 100 files to download in total, but before downloading any file, we first do a CRC/size/date check to see if you already have the updated file -- and if so, it skips it, saving you bandwidth.

We may do some pre-processing in a future version to give you a more accurate size indicator, mostly for those who are doing this via 4G and are concerned about bandwidth usage.

Yes, I was happily surprised when I saw how fast the 437MB download went.

So you do have intelligent update procedures. Excellent!

It would be nice to have more accurate size indication, but I'm relieved and happy that the 437MB actually turned out to be a lot less.
