Is it possible to supply power back to the USB port to power the IFLY 720 similar to charging devices using your USB Drive?

I see no one has replied, and I am just a member of the forum like you. I would suspect the power needed might be more than most USB sources might be able to provide. I say that because of the pretty hefty battery back up needed to keep it running for a while. I am sure some of the real tech people will address this soon.

Cliff,

If I ready your post correctly, you are asking if 12V power can be wired into the USB port to power the iFly. This is not possible, most USB port are only capable of 5V and have very low amperage. I am curious why you are trying to power the iFly from the USB. Since the iFly does not have an internal battery, you wouldn't be charging anything.

Maybe you have another 12V powered device and are looking to daisy chain the devices for power. Unfortunately, this will not work and could damage you iFly. The power input can accept both 12v or 24v, systems.

As this is the wish list forum, having the power come through the USB would eliminate the need to run one more cable to the device. Since we have to wire to a 9 pin to send or receive serial data, it would have been just as easy to send power back through the device if it would have been wired to accomodate. Typically the 5 volts just happens to be the voltage sitting on most PC boards and can be used for charging . I suppose one could connect a female USB on the end of the serial cable but most aircraft have healthy 14 or 28 volt supply laying around. thanks
