I understand the liability concerns regarding the potential misuse of the iFly. I am sure the disclaimer/warning page at bootup is a necessary "feature" from a legal standpoint.

But does it *have* to require a button press to get past? Is there some form I can sign promising never to misuse the device, and/or absolving you of any liability if I do so, so that I can be rid of that annoyance?

I'm sure the answer's probably "no", but I just thought I'd ask.

Cobra - I like this idea. I'd sign a paper statement if that would eliminate that screen. I fly for fun. Lawer talk just infringes on that fun.

I like the idea in priciple; but, what happens if:

  1. I sign form
  2. message goes away
  3. I sell iFly
  4. new owner (NO) is an idiot
  5. NO miss uses iFly
  6. NO claimse he didn't know better
  7. NO sues Adventure Pilot

Guessing legal dept saying I told you so isn't going to make Boyd and company feel better.....

Wayne - I would think that transfering ownership (and owner's responceability) could be as easy as updating the iFly's METARS and TFR's.

My point was that we have become such a litigious society that manufactures have no choice but to take EVERY precaution to protect themselves. The courts have determined that a reasonable man doesn't know that hot coffee needs to be handled w/ care unless there is a label on the cup reminding him. So Adventure Pilot does what everyone else in the industry does to protect themselves (even my Garmin automobile GPS has a similar disclaimer w/required button push) and reqires you to aknowledge the intended purpose of the device.

Now if we want to ask for a bigger button to push, to make it easier to dismiss the screen w/out reading the disclaimer, I'm all for that.
