I'm using an iFly 720 in my airplane with a Skyradar-L over wifi and a USB to serial adapter driving a TruTrak autopilot. I'm using the latest 7.5.2 software. The iFly 720 intermittently loses connectivity through the USB to serial adapter that drives the A/P. On some flights everything is working great and on others it fails. When it fails I check the connected devices menu and the serial adapter is missing. If I dig deeper I see that the COM 1 port is missing from the list. I've swapped out the USB to serial adapter as a test and I get the same result.

Has anyone experienced these problems? I really like the 720, I just plunked down $109 for an update, but a major factor for me was connectivity to my A/P.

Thanks for any help with this problem.

Tom, have you contacted support about this? Here is something you can try: Unplug the USB cable and reboot your iFly. Get back to this screen and touch the "Reset to Defaults" button. Save changes, then reboot your iFly again. This ensures we're starting from a blank clean slate.

Get back to the Serial Port management form again, then plug in your USB to Serial cable again. Within a few seconds a new port should appear. Select the new port, it should be setup as "Auto detect"...which means the iFly will automatically try and figure out what to do with the port. Click save to close this form. Since there is no data coming in, the iFly will assign it as a NMEA output device. This process takes 30 seconds or so.

After going through these steps, hopefully you won't have any more trouble. But if you do contact our support desk and they have a few other things the can try.

Thanks,

Walter

Walter, I've been in contact with customer support for the past few weeks, I've only posted to this forum out of desperation. I have followed every suggestion that customer support has instructed me to do. There are two unanswered emails and I figured no one at your company cared about this problem anymore.

I have tried the procedure you've laid out. I've swapped adapters, checked com port settings, checked the wiring and disconnected the WiFi to all but the Skyradar. Flight after flight, same result. I've photographed in-flight the missing com port and "no devices found" message to help support figure out the problem.

I bought the iFly720 July of 2012. I've had the same configuration since day one, Skyradar and iFly serial adapter driving a Trutrak A/P which was working fine up until February.

Tom

Tom,

I'm sorry you are having this problem. And I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with our support team; I will look into the unresponded emails and try and figure out why that ball was dropped. We do care about this problem. Someone will be emailing you today with a plan and next steps to get this issue resolved.

Thanks,
Walter
