Should the ETE wpoint and ETE Final be continuously displayed? On a flight yesterday I noticed that they were blank 2/3 to 3/4 of the time - intermittently. I might get a display for a second or two and occasionally long enough to see the ETE count down 4 or 5 seconds before going blank again. Just curious if this is normal.

Don: Just another user here. If your flight plan is direct - no waypoints, just a Departure and a Destination - then the "Waypoint" instruments will read the same as "Final" instruments. If, however, you have waypoints in the flight plan, then "Final" and 'Waypoints" instruments will show their respective individual data. That said, if you are flying a multi-leg flight plan and have Waypoint instruments shown, the Waypoint instruments will read the same as the "Final" instruments when you are flying on the final leg (your destination becomes the last waypoint, too). I don't like this feature, so here is my personal solution. I have created one set of instrument layouts (which I named "DIRECT") that has no "Waypoint" instruments; then I created and saved a second set of instruments (named "WAYPOINTS) which includes "Waypoint" readouts to use when my flight plans contain waypoints. A simple tap on any one of the instruments (except the "Flt Timer" or "Fix Accuracy") allows me to switch back and forth according to my needs. Now then, this is how it all works when you are flying or simulating a flight plan. If you are just sitting at home and have a flight plan active you could see some a-typical readings from the Waypoint instruments because the navigator will be calculating everything based upon your location at home. It is designed to work as you are flying - disregard waypoint info when just sitting stationary at home and not simulating flight. Hope this helps. ===Ralph

Ralph, Thanks for the reply. I wasn't concered that on my last leg yesterday the ETA for the leg and destination were the same. I expected that. What was confusing was they were flashing between valid times and blank screens. I don't recall this happening before the final leg - are you suggesting that's when it happens? If so, your workaround makes sense. Thanks, Don

Don: Sorry I misunderstood the issue. I don't recall ever seeing flashing between blank (or dashed) readouts and ETA / ETE real time values during an actual flight. I have seen that playing around with my unit at home. might guess it could possibly have soemthing to do with quality of GPS signal or GPS dropout, but that is just a guess on my part. ===Ralph

Correct, a weak or lost GPS signal for just a few seconds would cause this. Those instruments are calculated on a running average of the last several seconds and it might take 5-10 seconds after a signal drop to recalc and populate them. Hope this helps.
