I have the King 74 installed in my Piper Warrior now but only as a Mode S transponder for now until my Garmin 430W gets approved as an ADS-B source. I heard that this will happen sometime in August. It is only approved for the King 770 now but most of the Garmin certifed GPS units soon. No portable gps units are approved or under consideration for approval. The King 74 has some nice features including TIS displays {not TIS-B} and traffic alerts on the 430W, audio altitude deviation alerts, timer, and push button interface. I had a King 78A before so installation is much easier.

Walter / Shane

Has Don made any headway on getting the SkyGaurd transiever certified. I have been holding off on installing a permanent antenna for the transmit.

I get an ocassional positive progress report from Don, but for any official information on this project I must refer you to SkyGuard.

Fair enough, I will give him a call or send an e-mail.

Keep in mind with the Mode S transponders you will also need a pressure switch installed (Design Flex PSF100) coupled to your pitot system that tells ADS-B that you are either on the ground or in the air (required). With a UAT box such as the King KGX 150 you don't need that as it has an internal GPS for altitude reporting. They don't tell you that either. Correct me if I am wrong please.
