Base map  Modified By Sea Cav on 1/24/2014 9:12:49 AM

Reposting this from the Android section (The App is terrific, BTW)

It loaded and worked great on my Galaxy SII. I can't get it from the Play Store on my old Galaxy Tab. Is that because it is just too old, or should I keep looking?

The base map (Vector) is much better on my phone now than on my 720 - better definition and more features that I like (Primarily water features but also roads, etc). Is there any way to upgrade the base map on my 720?

Along that line, to be honest, even the improved base map on the Droid is still lacking compared to competition. And on the 720, it is very lacking - Even the Delaware river is not shown north of Willmington, DE!

Those are minor quibbles - The 720 and the new App rock!

Chuck,

You probably can't see the App on the Play Store due to your older Galaxy Tab possibly being pre Android 4.0.

As for the base map, we are about to release a new version 7.7 on the iFly 720, 700, 520 that will update the base map colors, resolution and content. This is currently in beta testing. We are also working to bring the 720 up to date with the same interface and look as the App. Stay tuned, this is planned for this Spring.

We are working to add additional content like VORs, terrain topo, better obstructions, and additional map content to the Vector Mode for our next major release. Weare committed to raising the bar on the Vector Base Map.

Thanks for the kind comments about our app, please pass the word along to fellow Android and iPad pilots. Have a great week.

Shane, I have been touting your APP all over the place. You can send me a check for the referral fee! Seriously, the APP is terrific.

About the 720 base map: I updated to v 7.7.6. It is very nice - much improved. My minor beef remains, though. As opposed to the APP which has more detail (paricularily water features which are big for me) it is lacking. At zoom level 1, the Delaware river stops abeam Willminton DE. The Delaware river is a significant waterway and is not depicted on the 720.

Same with some significant lakes, etc: They are depicted on the APP but not on the 720. I suspect that the great sunlight readability of the 720 may prevent such detail, but if possible, I'd love to see it. Thanks.

Actually, in the latest 7.6, Vector Mode, on the iFly 720 & 520, you will see the high resolution water. Have you updated your geographic databases? Unfortunately the 700 doesn't have enough power to support this feature.

Geographic update for Base Map? I have two SD cards (one I usually keep use as beta one as production), but both currently at 7.7.6. somehow I seem to have the new water detail when using one card but not the other.

Is there a way to force an update using iFly Connect or do I just have to do a USB update?

Thanks,

Alsdair
