I'm a private pilot and just now getting into the tablet EFB app world. I purchased a subscription for iFly although my pilot friends told me to get Foreflight. I use an Android phone and hate Apple phones but I like iPads fine. I have an older Samsung 8" tablet and iFly is installed and working fine on it. I also have it installed on my Samsung S20+ phone. I'm likely sticking with iFly and wondering should I get an updated Samsung tablet or an iPad??? Also, which is the best GPS/ADS-B/AHRS receiver to get? I'm in a flying club with several planes. I want my own receiver for backup and in some cases my primary information source. I like the Sentry specs with 12 hours battery life and the CO monitor but I can't tell if it works with iFly. Sporty's has the Dual XGPS170 and XGPS190 on sale right now but the battery life is only 5 hours. What is everyone else using with iFly for a tablet / receiver???

Hey Robert! Welcome aboard!
I know I am heavily biased because I'm team iOS everything, but you can't beat an iPad. Make sure you get one that's at least 32gb, because I don't care what someone says, it's gonna end up with pictures and music etc on, and it is such a hassle playing hot potato with content when you have a 16gb. Plus it will work with your apple watch and air pods - just can't be beat!

190 is the only one that works with us, but we've had some mixed reviews about it.
I strongly recommend the iLevil AstroLink found here: https://www.iflygps.com/STORE/Product/astro-link-ahrs-gps-ads-b-receiver
It's what I fly with and absolutely cannot be beaten. It's way more reliable than a stratux, and less expensive and has a smaller footprint than a stratus 3.
sentry is not compatible with us.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll get you fixed right up!

This is great feedback! Does the iLevel Sport also work?

I've had an iFly 700 and 720, but also have used iFly on a Nexus 7 (2013), Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, and an ASUS Zenpad 3S 10.  The Tab S2 and Zenpad 3S 10 are both a little long in the tooth now, but iFly still runs perfectly fine on both (the ASUS is my primary iFly device in flight, and the Tab S2 is my main backup, mounted on the copilot yoke within easy reach).  Really, unless you pick up a total dog of a device, you'll probably have a good experience running iFly on almost any device.  Better devices will have better displays and responsiveness, and those are valuable attributes, but even older devices (like my Tab S2) that have good specs work great.

I also use iFly on a Win10 machine and a Samsung Galaxy S9+ phone, and it runs great on those platforms as well, but those devices are not suited for use in the aircraft while flying, so I only use them on the ground.

One of iFly's substantial benefits is its cross-platform support.  Using the app is seamless regardless of what device you use it on, and your settings and stored data (flight plans, sketches, etc.) can be easily moved from device to device.

I'm glad to know you've had success on various platforms. My Samsung tablet is about 4 years old but iFly seems to work very well on it. I just haven't tried it with an ADS-B device yet. My tablet doesn't have much memory but had plenty to download all the VFR sectionals that I am likely to use. I've tried Apple phones and just can't stick with one. I bought an iPhone 11 and gave it to my daughter after 6 months. I'm an Android guy for phones but could use an iPad for flying if there was real benefit. I've read reviews where people have had significant issues with iPads communicating with various GPS/ADS-B devices so I'm hoping there is an Android solution that is rock solid.

All you pilots out there are a tremendously valuable information source so I'm anxious to hear from everyone on what works for you and why.
