The ADSB connection is not really dependent on what platform (Android, iOS, Windows, iFly device) you're using.  They all generate their own WiFi network, and you log your device into that network the same way you'd log your device into your home WiFi.  For almost every ADSB-in device out there, the iFly app knows how to use that WiFi connection to link up to the ADSB device and exchange data.

As long as you steer clear of the ADSB devices that have proprietary arrangements to only work with specific apps or devices (like Foreflight and Stratus used to have, back in the day, and Garmin may have today...I don't use those tools so don't follow them closely and don't keep track of who doesn't talk to who), you'll be okay.

One of the least expensive and most common portable ADSB devices in use is the Stratux, which comes in a lot of pre-built shapes and sizes, or can be easily constructed as a DIY project.

I have an Avidyne transponder that supports 1090-ES ADSB-out, which doesn't have anything to do with iFly, and a home-built Stratux for my ADSB-in, which works great with iFly.

student VFR pilot in c172.   i use the ipad (full size)  with iFLY and Stratux built by CrewDog electronics.  Stratux seems solid with the exception of the  AHRS sensor output.  I have not noticed any disconnects from stratux others have reported.

K31T - the AHRS modules are IMHO aren't ready for prime time.  There are numerous posts on Reddit re AHRS stability issues and many Stratux users have posted here with problems as well.  I still holding out some hope that Brolin will either come up with a solution or post a link to someone at Stratux that will have an answer to the AHRS problem.

And kudos to you for choosing iFly as an aid to your training - awesome app, great user base!

So are these problems limited to AHRS information only and not affecting ADS-B information?

AFAIK, yes.  We've been flying with iFly and Stratux for years and have had no issues with the ADS-B in performance.  Our Stratux sits on the hat shelf behind the rear seat, we have dual antennas mounted on the Stratux and use the Stratux internal GPS.

I'm going to be testing reverting back to an earlier Stratux version that worked with my older ver 1.1 AHRS board and will post the results here.
