After much research on portable GPS's, the iFLy 700 has some great features and capabilities. My one concern is the size. I made a cardboard mockup of the unit to see how it would fit in my Warrior and a concern I have is that it takes up more windshield space then I was hoping for. If I move it to the side, of the winshield, I block some to left instruments. Has anyone done an install in a Piper PA-28? I'm now looked at mounting the unit near the throttle / mixture quad. This would require a gooseneck mount in order not to interface with the flap handle and would require an external gps antenna.

Walter, what kind of mount does the Ifly 700 accept if I try to use a gooseneck mount for a GPS unit?

PA28-140. It covers my clock (which I don't use), and the left half of my airspeed indicator, which I (unfortunately) don't use either!

Hope that helps. The unit is big, and it took a few moves to get it exactly where I wanted it. A yoke mount would be optimal.

I guess the problem with a nice big easy to read 7 inch screen is that it measures 7 inches!!!!

I have an early Cheroke which has a glove box that is almost identical in size as the GPS. I didn't want to give it up but the unit needed to be angled toward the left to be more visible, the door was plastic so it wouldn't support a stud mount very long before it broke, and it wouldn't have opened very far before the right side of the GPS would have stopped it as long as the hinge was on the right. I made an aluminum door, hinged it on the left side and used a carriage bolt, two pieces of angled plastic, and a couple small pieces of velcro on the left corners (Provided a little more stability). The second picture is looking straight down the center of the open door so you can see both inside and out and the third picture was taken thru the windshield so it looks "Foggy" but you can see the details (And yes, I know the weatherstrip looks ugly and needs trimmed and my tach and MP gauge are sideways on purpose!)

Mike,

Where did you get the bolt and nut used to bolt it the unit to the mount?
