I don't think or see how this is software related, but only just started noticing it after upgrading to the new 7 release. Whenever I unplug the iFly from the powersupply after a short delay it finally turns off. Then it makes this high pitched whistling noise which fades out after several seconds. It's exactly like the noise an old school capacitor makes as it discharges. I do not have a battery so this is with either the ac or 12 volt cords.

Is this normal?

Steve, is this reboot circuit just on 720"s I don't recall that on my 700. When the plug comes loose in the plane for a split second, the unit reboots...

Hi Jon,

There is a reboot protection circut in the unit that keeps it powered for about 30 seconds after you unplug it, meaning you can transfer it from car to battery to plane or lose power briefly without having reboot the unit. The circut does include a capacitor, which is what you're hearing when the unit powers down. It can be hard to hear, so you may have just not noticed it until recently. It is normal, so there is nothing to worry about. Hope this helps!

Steve

Steve, Can you provide more details on this feature? The short power delay I refer too only lasts maybe 2 or 3 seconds. Not 30. Is the unit still on and the screen just goes off after 2-3 seconds to save power during this discharge time? If the unit AND screen are suppose to be on for more then 2-3 seconds then I'd say my unit has a problem. I'll test it when I return home over the weekend.

From what I understand the standby power of 2-5 seconds is provided by a capacitor. When I am removing power for an OS update I actually put the iFly up to my ear and listen for the capacitor to give up it's last bit of energy to know that all power has been removed.

The sounds you are hearing are perfectly normal in my humble opinion, and it usually takes abour 30 to 45 seconds for it to completely die.

This circut is only on the 720s, that is correct Wade.

Jon, the screen goes dark after a few seconds, but if you were to plug the unit back into power, it would revive at the screen you were on last instead of rebooting. This will last for around ten seconds after you unplug the device, and the capacitor will stop making noise after about thirty.

Steve

Steve, Tested it this evening. Works just as your described. Nice feature!
