Now that I have this neat little GPS (after dumping my brand new G-696 when I discovered the absurd cost of their updates) Ive discovered the cost of the ADS-B receiver to be $1K. Ouch! So being the consumate price shopper (cheap skate) I looked for other units that might work. They are , alas, all about the same $1K which by my standards is BS. No little box should cost $1K. SO here is a neat little one I found for $73 Pounds that if it worked would be WAY cool. I dont know the tech specs required but if this was configurable it would be the big answer to the question. Anyone know if this could be configured to the iFly? or how to tell if it could be used. It looks like it would work physically but I dont know about software or other requirements.

Hi Kurt,

That unit (and others like it) will not work [well]. That unit uses 1090ES. 1090ES is traffic only (no weather). Further, in the US, you will only receive data on that channel if you -- or someone in your area -- is transmitting on that channel.

Regards,
Neal

OK thanks. I was hoping this might be configurable for at least wx as it is small and cheap. Too bad!

Thanks
