CRC Error warning and won't update databases and charts

I am a fairly new owner and user of the 740B. So far I really like it. However, I have it in my den right now trying to update the machine. I have already updated the Sectional data a couple of times and this time it is not working. It is flashing red warning boxes that come and go too fast to note the exact wording but it inovles "CRC failure" or maybe CRC Core Failure". I have tried several times both before and after doing a reset to factory standard settings. Same thing every time. It downloads the TFR and weather data and then tries to do Software, eventually moves on to Aviation Databases and tries that for a while then moves on to the Anchorage Sectional. It loads that to 100% in the first progress box then starts to fill in the Overall Progress box, stalls and displays a warning and drops the Overall Progress box back to zero, tries again, repeat repeat repeat forever. It just stalls there.

Am I doing something wrong or has my unit had a Stroke or a Brain Fart or something?

I am not horribly tech savvy. I am a grandfather who can do basic computer stuff but it is not second nature to me like it is for youngsters. 

Thanks for any help anyone might offer. I this can't be sorted with help here I will call the factory tech folks and bug them.

This doesn't address the underlying problem you have with the 740b, but if you have a Windows machine, do you know about iFly Connect? https://www.iflygps.com/iFly-GPS/Update-iFly-Portables/Download-iFly-Connect

This program will allow you to plug your SD card into your Windows computer and update your databases through that device rather than using the 740 via wifi.

I tried putting the SD card into my Windows desktop computer and it said the SD card was read only and would not deal with it. I will try again.

Well that's really easy to fix! On the left had side, there's a switch with a lock on it. It's probably in the down, or "locked" position. SD = Secure Digital, which means it can be write-protected.
