What happened was that I was in the air and realized that I hadn't loaded the flight plan in the GPS. ( distracted by my passenger's assets) I was about 2 miles away when I called it up and loaded it. I was expecting to see the magenta line from my departure airport to the first way point. The plan was to fly to the line and continue on. It was real hazy and the first waypoint was about 30 miles away so I couldn't see it on the screen and any recognizable landmarks. I did find the destination on the map after a bit and just hit the " fly direct to" key and all was good.
