I'm running out of internal memory on my Android phone.  I noticed that the iFly app has very similar directory structures in both the internal memory and SD card memory - down to identical structures in their data folders where the sectional charts are located.  The charts require the most memory - almost a GB worth.  When I update my charts, the new data goes only to the SD card.  Can I therefore delete the data folder in the internal memory?  If so, how far up the directory path can I delete?  When I go to Settings/Apps, the iFly app points to the internal memory.  Is there a way to get it to point only to the SD card?  -  Thank, Jim Williams

I don't think the Android setting has any effect on where iFly stores files.  The place you want to change that setting is inside iFly, via Menu > Check for Updates > Advanced Options > Change Storage Location.  Once you get to the Advanced Options screen, you'll see where the storage is currently selected (Internal (or sometimes "Shared") vs SDCard).  Look at the total indicated size of the different storage location options to confirm you're picking the one you want--sometimes the names can be non-intuitive/misleading.  (That trick may not help if your SD Card is the same size as your internal storage, though!)

When you change locations, I don't think iFly deletes the data from the location where it was originally stored...it just gets abandoned in place.  (That also used to be true even if you uninstalled iFly, though I don't know if that's currently the case.)

If you're not set to use the internal storage, I'm pretty sure you could delete the entire iFly.GPS/files/iFly/Data folder and continue using iFly via the SDCard with no issues, but I've never tried that myself.  I'm not sure if it would automatically recreate those folders if you ever opted to switch back to internal storage, though if it didn't, I think you could recover by uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Thanks, Cobra.  That is what I had in mind.  I think I'll wait a day or two before I delete everthing (iFly everthing) in the internal memory and see if I hear from someone at the office.  Does Brian still work there?  He was really good about things like this.  Thanks again - Jim

Yes, Brian is still at iFly, but is hard at work prepping for Oshkosh and does not currently frequent the forums like he has in the past.  You could always try giving the iFly folks a call on the phone if you don't get the answer you're looking for here.

I just called AP and talked with Brolin.  He assured me that I could delete all of the folders and files in the internal memory.  I did and my phone is still  running iFly just fine.  Thank you Cobra and Brolin.  -  Jim Williams  P.S. - This saved 0.79 GB on my phone!
