The Jerky issue in Synth Vision are AHRS related. The Jerky during map pan is a separate issue.

I have mentioned the jerky movements on my Android tablet that would preclude accuracy approaches.

We need to get an AHRS input to work with IFLY on our Android devices.

That said, if I had an engine failure when above a solid undercast I feel confident that I could safely descend through the undercast using my Dynon attitude indicator AND synth vis to keep me off the rocks until below the undercast.

My Avid Flyer MK4 is ADSB equipped with Uavionix ECHO UAT and SKY FIX. However, there is no AHRS from that system.

With a check pilot on board, I have made approaches to my field to below minimums by just using my IFLY location on my tablet along with my Dynon attitude display and altimeter. and rate of descent. When I hear IFLY say "500" I look up and continue VFR touchdown.

John, this sounds reasonable - I would do this also, but in my area, I would have to "confess" to ATC and check in with them as we have so much traffic I would dare not decend into IMC without knowing who else is around...very risky around here.  I know you know this and would probably do the same....

We also have mountains and very high wind turbines and antennas around here....but the SV would help so much in a pinch....or really, even at night or over water on hazy days where we can't really tell a clear horizon. Thanks!

If you lose your engine, you are going to descend.  If you have time and are able, call 121.5 and tell them.  However, don't lose control in IMC trying to use your radio.  Some people keep one frequency set to 121.5 at all times.  I use flight following for almost all flights out of the traffic pattern, so ATC is a button click away.

That is a very logical technique - I will try it. Thanks Tim. Mike N714AJ

I prefer to use flight following and don't file VFR flight plans.  When I was still IFR current, I filed IFR all the time.
