After reading the many posts here on the iFly forum I've been thinking - we have a lot of mental horsepower of combined iFly users discussing ADS-B and there are still many more unanswered questions about this new technology. Even folks who have and are using ADS-B hardware don't seem to know the full extent of its capabilities or limitations. The FAA has done, at best, a very mediocre job of educating us on how to use it but they've made it loud and clear the clock keeps ticking towards their brick wall 2020 deadline. Does anyone else feel the same way?

It seems pretty simple to me except for all the different hardware that's now available.

It was reading various threads in the iFly General Discussions forum that made me realize there is much more to understanding ADS-B than just seeing traffic and reading METARS on our displays:

The first discussion you referenced was simply someone who did not understand that you don't need ADS-B out to get weather information. This has been spelled out by the FAA for years. The second discussion you referenced is in regard to some additional weather information being added. There will probably be enhancements as we go along, so you just need to keep up.

OK, I need to keep up. Don't you think it would be beneficial if the FAA sponsored seminars/workshops to keep us caught up with the changes you referenced as well as future plans/changes/enhancements? A nice gesture would be an FAA sponsored ADS-B seminar/workshop at national fly-ins or program meetings at local flying clubs/chapters.

My point is - the FAA has been very vocal about the deadline but not so much help teaching us how to use and understand the technology after we've installed it. If folks on this forum, who are usually quite skilled and informed, don't understand you need ADS-B out to get weather, don't you think there are a lot more who don't know that as well?
