A couple of more points following some investigation trying to figure this out. I downloaded a couple of GPS status/data apps to check out my GPS functionality. Both report good lock and strong signals. All other apps which use the GPS are working great but iFly reports weak GPS signal at best. Occasionally when I first launch iFly it will report 3 of 4 bars in the GPS signal box then drop to 1 after a few seconds. I went to load the history tracks for the last crosscounty and the leg out on the 24th loads correctly. However, for the return leg on the 26th when the problem appeared, there are two history files but each is only a few seconds of the flight. There are several log files for that day but only one of any size (0.3MB) so I'm not sure which one(s) would be useful.

I am convinced it is not a hardware problem. A software issue between iFly and Android 12 seems to have cropped up but prior to this trip iFly had been working great with Android 12. I did cross a time zone on this trip but don't know if that could be a problem. I think my next move is to uninstalll iFly and start with a fresh download and install unless a fix presents itself in the next few days.

Another avenue of investigation that comes to mind based on your describing that the GPS lock is good to start with, but then deteriorates, is to check to see if the iFly GPS app is being managed by the battery optimization part of the operating system.

On my Samsung S21+: go to Settings | Battery & Device Care | Battery and make sure Power Saving is turned off. In the same screen, tap on Background Usage Limits, then see if iFly GPS is in the Sleeping Apps list or the Deep Sleeping Apps list. If so, long-press on the app icon, then choose Remove.

Also: go to Settings | Apps, find iFly GPS in the list and tap on it, tap on Battery, and make sure the Unrestricted radio button is selected.

I had an issue with MyFlightBook being flaky (GPS-wise) on my new phone and battery management was the cause.

Well, no joy with the battery management options. I turned battery management completely off, gave iFly unrestricted access to battery in foreground and background, shutdown and restarted everything (apps and phone more than once) and nothing has changed. Weak GPS reception (only in iFly) ... just enough to find my location but not enough to track my direction or movement. None of the Google suggestions changed anything either. My partner's android phone (NOT ver 12) is still running fine. Looks like I'm going to try uninstall and reinstall next.

Latest efforts: I uninstalled iFly, downloaded a fresh copy and installed. Gave it all the location and access permissions it requested during the install. Downloaded all the maps and databases I use. I also verified the iFly app permissions in the Android Settings app. All were as they should be. Result - No change. One thing I have noticed is that the location icon is not at the top of the phone screen when iFly is the app running in the foreground. It is there when I run the Google Map app.

I also fired up my old phone which still has iFly on it. It is running Android 10. iFly ran perfectly. I think I will re-activate my old phone to use as my iFly backup untill this is resolved.

I will hit the Support button at iFly and report the problem and start an official support tag.

I'm seeing the same thing on my Pixel 3a with Android 12.
