Finally, I was able to get out and knock some rust off at FTG with 3 TO's and Lndgs with extended downwinds each to a full stop - so far so good. The IFLY GPS software is outstanding in exhibiting traffic on the tablet, and connection times to the FreeFlight FDL978 XVRL WIFI transceiver were less than 30 seconds. The 978 UAT in was able to display Mode C only, 978 ADS-B, and 1090ES aircraft easily from the UAT towers and or individual aircraft transmissions. Now the bad: I need a new encoder with RS2322 capability!

978 - has anonymous function (add a mini toggle switch to panel to ground a specific pin as per mfg) , seems to cost less but that depends on the whether you are paying an installer and who you buy your 978 from. May not need a transponder test as encoder and transponder are not being removed. If you have a Gray Code only encoder, you will most likely need a new encoder incorporating RS232 as well. Experimental can use an "anybody" out box, so no worry.
1090 - they always know who you are. Most likely will need a transponder test to recertify with encoder and will need a squat switch or air pressure switch (basically a simple reed switch to give an on/off signal to transponder) incorporated in airspeed (pitot) lines to signal when off ground. They will charge you well over a hundred dollars for the $15 or less switch. Most people installing 1090's would pay over $300 for the switch and wouldn't know any better or even care.

As far as the out - they both send to the towers!

Where are you going and what are you doing that you want to remain anonymous? Usually when I'm flying, I want ATC to know who I am and where I am and I'm usually talking to them.

FreeFlight XVRL IN/OUT w/wifi and control head coupled to Garmin GTX 327 with ONE wire to TC Control Head and using the TC Control Heads encoder - programmed Garmin GTX 327 to interpret ICARUS codes. After a flawless Static Sys. check and recerting Altimeter and TC Control head encoder, flew plane ( cherokee cruiser 150) and the PAPR and GAIRS reports passed easily.

www.joespiper.com  , left side, bottom of home page to view reports. Love the ADS-B IN and out identification ( wifi to Samsung Galaxy Tab S - 8.5 inch Amoled.)

Removed the Narco AT50 A and SSD-120 Encoder ( no serial output) and wire harness.
