Jeff, the good news for your tail dragger friends is that when you get your 1090 out, all they need is a Stratux and they can enjoy the benefits of flying in your puck for no admission charge! Hey, maybe they'll even pick up the lunch tab.....

C177RG: iFly 720, Stratux 978/1090 ADS-B in, AHRS, BMP, Stratus ESG ADS-B out. RV-3: 8" Samsung Tab A, Stratux 978/1090 ADS-B in, AHRS, BMP, Stratus ESG ADS-B out.

No such luck; I can't even get the one guy with ADS-B OUT, a Carbon Cub, to turn on his transponder so I can use HIS puck. We already have a scheme in place to get others to buy the meal - I haven't paid for my food in the last several trips. Come along some time and you'll see how it works... ;)

I understand all that and I got all that covered with a dual band Statux receiver. So all I really need is Out. Unless I missed something, it still looks like 1090 Out is the best way to go, since I would have to replace our venerable King transponder with Mode S anyway. Might as well get a Mode S that also squits ADS-B Out and kill two regulatory birds with one stone. (Am the builder of an Experimental, so installation costs are nil also.)

Then all you need is an experimental uat out box since you are experimental.

Another difference to be considered between UAT and 1090.
