Not what you asked, but I am almost 69 and use an iPad Mini 4 and it works great. I also use a windshield RAM mount.

If you can afford it go with a S2. You dont need the 10" (imho). If the S2 is out of budget, look for a S.

FWIW, I just got a Tab S2 off eBay for ~$250, which seems to be about the going rate ($200-250). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to actually use it yet because of the anti-theft feature that requires access to a "previously-registered Google account email address" during the setup process. As soon as the local electronics store opens this morning, I think I'll be able to bypass this, but word of advice to anyone buying used: Coordinate with the seller to create a dummy/throwaway Google account and set up the device with that before shipping, and then share the password with you. (Most modern Samsung devices have this factory reset protection built-in now, but neither the seller nor I were familiar with this feature so I got surprised by it.)

Edit: I was unable to defeat the "feature" and had to return the device to the seller so that he could unlock it for me. All good now, though.

Just another data points. I use a 10 inch Tab A with a Ram yoke mount and the Ping absb with great results. I don't typically use an external power source for the tablet and have no problems with three hour flights.

I purchased a Galaxy Tab A 8" within the last month, and downloaded the iFly for Android Application. I'm completely happy with my purchase. It has 1.5 gig of RAM and I added the Samsung HP 128 gig mini-chip to augment the 16 gigs of internal RAM, and everything is working perfectly. The Tab A is kind of the predessor to the Tab S2, which has 3 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of internal memory. My only complaint is that I can not view iFly in Landscape mode.

Yes you can. You have to shut down iFly GPS, turn your device to landscape, then restart iFly GPS. It will not switch on the fly.
