Okay, okay, I know we're not supposed to rely on ADS-B for separation. (Although, isn't that the whole idea after 2020? (Admittedly, everyone is supposed to have certified units by then.)) But it's difficult to forget that we're not supposed to reply on ADS-B when it's this accurate. (Edit: These aircraft are transmitting directly to me via 1090. I think that still comes under the umbrella of ADS-B, but am not sure about the terminology.)

ADS-B aircraft transmit and receive on 2 frequencies, 978 and 1090. Generally, 978 is for aircraft that fly below 18,000 feet and 1090 is for aircraft that fly above 18,000 feet. You can receive ADS-B traffic directly from aircraft equipped with ADS-B out or from the FAA ground stations. You must have ADS-B out to trigger the ground station to send data to your aircraft, but you can sometimes intecept the signal being sent to a nearby ADS-B out equipped aircraft.

Mike, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with this post. No one is arguing that GPS position determination isn't accurate. We all use GPS, and have been using GPS, for decades now. Yes, it's very accurate. With WAAS, it's even more so.

The only conversation we've had with a potential disagreement is whether a few pixels in positioning the target on the screen is significant, since by the laws of physics the target painted on your screen very accurately depicts where the target was some milliseconds or seconds or tens of seconds ago, not where it is right this absolute instant.

However, traffic displays can be less accurate at times. I've seen traffic on base when my screen still showed them on downwind.
