I think Mike is just marvelling at the state of electronics these days. A few (most?) of us learned to fly when pilotage was the norm and routes were chosen by highways, power lines, bodies of water, and a clock. When all THAT failed you, you swooped down to read the nearest town's name on the water tower. Now, you can use a $12 USB WAAS GPS the size of a nickel connected to a $45 computer the size of a pack of cigarettes, talking wirelessly to satellites in the sky and a color screen in your hand showing a moving map that accurately shows you that you're currently standing outside the doors of your hangar and one friend has departed and is climbing away while another one is about to start a takeoff roll.
