1. What is the small (1/4" x 4") piece of foam rubber for?

2. Can/should the battery pack be left on the charger continously - or should it be unplugged after some period of time?

3. On the bottom/back of the unit there is two labels. These labels read, "H.R. /Trip/Ext Key" and "Ext Sd". There appears to be no connections associated with these labels (or they are covered up). What are these?

4. Does anyone have any issues with scratching of the screen? I'm wondering if I should get a screen cover? I did try to put the original cover back on the screen after taking it off and it was full of bubbles I could not get out.

I just received my unit two days ago and I love it already! I am working on my instrument rating and having this in the plane for situational awareness is going to be a huge addition to my basic steam gauge panel.

My wife and co-pilot loves it two - primarliy because the size makes it so easy to read. The ability to increase the instrument readings means both of us can take our reading glasses off!

Lastly, the damn thing is so easy to figure out really pleases me. I am over-loaded on complex technology because of my work and I have no desire to wrap my brain around some gazillion-function unit - and one that my wife (and co-pilot) would simply not take the time to learn.

Lastly, the suction mount works perfect on the center of the windshield in my Cardinal. It allows about half of the unit to hang below the turtledeck so there is very little obstruction of view.

Didn't I mention I really, really like this unit? Great job on the whole design and simplicity of it!

Hi Gary,

I'm glad you like your iFly.

1. The foam is generally not needed. However it can be used as a buffer if you're mounting the iFly in such a way that it is touching something; just stick the foam to the side of your iFly that is in contact with your airplane. Helps to dampen vibrations, and it will protect your windscreen, plastic, etc.

2. The battery may be left on and charging. Just be sure and disconnect power before aircraft startup/shutdown, power surges can damage the battery.

3. These ports are not used.

4. The screen is very durable, I've had very few reports of scratches and have yet to scratch any of my development units...and these have been severely punished.

Clarification on Q2: Scott is correct, there is a serial port covered by the plastic sticker - we will eventually have some accessories that can utilize this port. The Ext Sd port is not used.
