My take on this is: say for whatever reason, you decide to land before your first stop on a multi-hop x-country. You just decide, due to weather or headwinds (fuel), I'm going to stop now, at that airport under me. It's not in the flight plan. The weather clears or you have afull load of fuel, and want to continue to your destination. Rather than messing with the flight plan when choosing the new stopping point, and re-building the plan, just continue from where I left off.
Of course in the this scenario, your next planed stop is probably not needed, and reaching the on after that is questionable, so maybe you do need to rebuild the plan from scratch?
