Not having tried V6, and being a new user, I'd say that the easiest solution might be a button that pops up near at the bottom whenever the device decides you're more than likely on the airport property that quickly lets you see the airport diagram and quickly switch back to regular view. It might be distracting if it was switching back and forth while I was doing touch an go's (where I try to get down below 20kt before starting the "go" part, since I'm in a taildragger (more opportunities to "excel" that way :) )). Maybe that's what's alreay implemented, but the OP mentiond having the unit "set up" before hand, so I'm not sure what all that entails....
