Was flying on a long cross country recently. Fuel stop airport had a runway closure, leaving the lone runway somewhat short for the high DA. Decided about 150 miles out that it would be best to divert to a field nearby for fuel.

Naturally, I can pan the map to my intended fuel stop and look around for a nearby airport. But at first I tried going to NRST and setting the Filter for "Final." Which isn't there. (But there is a "Search Nearby" in the Airport Info page for some airports. More on that in a moment.)

As I had intended to go to Elko, NV and the nearest airports were 50 miles away and not appearing on the zoom I had set, I had to zoom out twice before finding Wells.

(BTW, what's the easy way now to call up the Quick View window for your FINAL? (So that the map will auto pan to FINAL.) We talked Brian into making it so that tapping on the Flight Plan page called up the Airport Info page. Now I'm thinking it would be better to call up the Quick View for both the Final Instrument and the FP page. (Mostly I want to know the runways and freqs, which is already in QV.) As it works now, if I tap on a VOR in the Flight Plan page, that gives me a Quick View and moves the map to the VOR. So it would be more consistent to call up QV all the time. (Sorry Brian.))

That got me thinking whether it would be nice having a NRST to FINAL for an IFR flight into unfamiliar territory? I was once going into Midway when the airport manager closed the field (at night) because a Mooney landed gear up. Kinda frantic single pilot night IFR trying to come up with a quick close by alternative having to pan the map to Final and read all the unfamiliar info from the en route (or Area) chart.

There is already a button called "Search Nearby" in the Airport Info page which appeas when an airport doesn't have a METAR. That button calls up the NRST with a filter to Final. So it seems that the code is already in the software. Perhaps we could make the "Search Nearby" button persistent on the Airport Info page for all airports? That way, we wouldn't clutter up our Filter choices in NRST, but the feature would still be accessible.
