I put this thread in the wrong section and have reposted it here.

I have noticed that when I am trying to move the centering point on my 740b screen to my custom waypoint, it disappears from the screen. When I take my finger off the screen, it reappears.

This is very inconvenient when that is the very place I am trying to center on.

Reminds me of when my kids had a game called "Whac-A-Mole".wink

I sympathize with you, but this behavior is by design.  The screen is decluttered when moving it, and I wager that in most cases that's helpful to the user.  (Maybe it also cuts down on the processing power required to move the map, since it removes some layers.)

You could try an enhancement request that either: A) Provides an option to turn off that behavior; or B) Provides a "Center on Screen" option when you click on the waypoint (or maybe a sub-menu item) -- not to be confused (and it probably would be) with the "Map Center" option under Edit Custom Waypoint.

I think that some way to do what you're asking for would be occasionally helpful.

It just seems to me that there are times when it is appropriate to declutter the screen. There are also times and items when it might not be the best idea. I posted this hoping for some discussion and clarity.

What, exactly, are you trying to accomplish?

Are you literally just trying to put a specific location near the center of the screen?  (And why?)

It's not clear to me why such an action would be a common task.  The normal behavior of a moving map app is...well, for the map to move.  So whatever you put in the center of the screen would not normally be expected to stay there for long.

So I'm wondering if there's some other reason you're trying to perform this action, and whether there might be a better way to accomplish your ultimate goal.  (Are you trying to measure a distance, for instance?)

Otherwise, it's not clear to me why it's critical to hit the crosshairs exactly, and just putting something approximately in the middle of the screen isn't "good enough"...?

A couple of thoughts that may be helpful in your case with the current design:
- Using Sectional mode may be helpful, as there is enogh detail on the base map to spot your point while the map is decluttered.
- Adding your custom waypoint to your flight plan will keep the point visible while the map is decluttered

Both of those actions could be set up temporarily while you perform the action and then undone.  Depending on how frequently you perform this, those might be acceptable workarounds or highly annoying.

I was just asking why the disappearing happens and was it intentional. Maybe an oversight in coding.
