Are there setup steps to inteface SkyRadar to iFLY, or just plug in the USB and power both up? On startup a dialog box "Assign a name to your device comes up", but is soon hidden by the startup sequency of iFLY. Is that box essential?

You should just need to plug it in. If you are having any problems, try this procedure to remove any question about a problem with the handshaking procedures those devices go through:

1) Power up both the iFly and the SkyRadar, but do not connect the two
2) Wait 60 seconds to ensure both are fully booted and functioning.
3) Plug SkyRadar into the iFly via the USB cable
4) Wait 2 minutes
5) Touch Menu / About / Connected Devices to see if the SkyRadar has properly connected.

You should not receive a driver dialog when you plug the SkyRadar in. If you do, it probably means you need to upgrade your iFly's OS version. Check your version by going to the system menu, then touch Config / System. Look at the "OS" label for your version; it should be 3.0.10 or higher. (Note: If your serial is MB9C you will need serial # 2.0.4)

Thanks,

Walter

I just returned from my first flight with the Radenna unit mated to my iFly 700. I simply attached the rubber-ducky antenna to the Skyrader box, connected it to a 3-input 12v power "expander", joined the iFly to the Skyradar with the USB connector, and ground-checked them. I didn't attend very closely to what sequece I powered them up, just started them simultaneously. On the iFly, I immediately noticed a new button for playback of the radar imaging, and thought that was a good sign. I then powered down, tidied up the wiring a bit with bread-ties (pending something cleaner using tie-wraps), and pre-flighted.

On takeoff, and passing 800 feet or so as the VOR's woke up, I watched to see if anything interesting happened on the iFly. Alas, it was severe clear as far out as I could zoom, so there was no observable weather on the Mode for weather display, nor was there any observable traffic, or alerts for traffic, which isn't surprising around here, BUT all the available METARS and Terminal Forecasts were current and updated. I'd not downloaded an update to the iFly prior to launching, so, clearly the Skyradar was receiving ADS-B data, and the iFly was coherently displaying it where you'd expect to find it. Just touch an airport until it's selected, and select the weather information choice for that station. Bang, fresh METARS.

My Comanche happens to have a lightning detector display that I bought new from a wretched Canadian outfit which shall not be spoken of. Because of that instrument's poor design, after a little over a year of using it, I had to replace the gas plasma display with an "upgrade" LED display for about the same dollars spend on the iFly 700 + Radenna's Skyradar. The value in this combination for situational awareness, and now current weather data and imaging, well, ...wow. Just wow. I am beyond impressed.

Hi Walter,
Tried your method for powering everything up.
I got the same error as before: unable to load/locate usb driver

Unit Ser# MB0c0232
OS #3.0.10

I tried the skyradar with my ipod, and it worked great today, only wish it would work now on the ifly.
Also tried 4 different cables and all had the same issue.

If you can't duplicate the issue. I can UPS ND Air the unit to you on Tue from work, you would have it on Wed, and hopefully could figure it out same day, and send back and all could be well before the weekend?
I would send IFLY, my usb cable, and skyradar unit.
Let me know.
I'll take it to work on Tue if you decide this to be best/easiest option.

I have S/N: MB0C0179 with OS# 3.0.10 and am currently waiting for OS# 3.0.11 to arrive. I am having the same problem with the driver not found / loaded. However, after reading Walter's latest post on the OS requirement, is there any hope that the OS upgrade to 3.0.11 is going to help? Is there anything else can I do or try?

Waiting on new OS via snail mail,

Dave
