Here's one I hadn't noticed before--the GPS Status is "ADS-B":

That's in a photo on this page: http://www.iflygps.com/Support/Forum/...ope/posts#41467

The iFly Pilot's Guide doesn't seem to mention that possibility. What does it mean? And how does it work?

In my experience, the GPS Status "instrument" always shows that "ADSB" indication when iFly is communicating with an ADSB-in receiver and using the ADSB device's GPS solution.  iFly always preferentially uses an external ADSB device's GPS over any GPS built into the device on which iFly is running.  iFly will revent back to the built-in GPS if the external GPS input is lost, and the GPS Status instrument will then show a ramp of bars to indicate the quality of the GPS signal reception.

Note that when the GPS Status instrument looks like your photo above, it means iFly has a good connection to the ADSB device and is consuming its GPS solution, but that does NOT mean that it is also getting good ADSB-in data from FAA towers.  As your photo shows, there is a separate "ADSB Status" instrument that gives insight into the quality of the ADSB-in traffic and weather data.  In your example photo, there is no ADSB-in data being received.  That is a common signature when on the ground, where the ADSB device is getting a good GPS signal, but does not have a good ADSB-in signal from an FAA tower.

Don,

I get this when I fly too low over the mountains around here...just can't get the ground antenna signal. Still get the GPS from above...

When this happens, I sometimes "lose" my "wingmen" who do not have ADSB-out, but somehow still get signals from those whe ARE equipped!

Have to admit, I do not always get consistent results, but the system is getting better and more reliable all the time.

HERE are the three indications I get the most (see below).

Excellent observations, Mike!  I don't recall seeing Tower Idle on either my 740 or iPhone--but, then, I hadn't been looking at the GPS instrument for ADSB info before, either.
