SkyGuard has had a transceiver for a long time. They got approval to upgrade to meet the 2016 SIL >0 requirements. All the older units were upgraded for $50 including a new WAAS GPS. The newer units did not need to be updated. I use my SkyGuard in the plane and Stratux at home watching traffic in the Atlanta area just for beta testing IFly GPS.

Yes, we just got a couple of the new SkyGuardTWX Vision-Pro+ EX "Out only" models. I'll be putting them up on our web store later today. The will retail for $1299 and can be used to comply with the 2020 ADS-B Out Mandate when installed in Experimental and LSA. You would still need to get an ADS-B receiver (In) to see the WX and Traffic.

Interesting. I'm happy with the Pi for In. If we were going to keep our plane, looks like the EX would be the way to go. (I can't recall now - does OUT xmit on a different freq than In? (I don't think so.) If they're on the same freq, how does one avoid saturating the In receiver with an independent xmitter right next to it?) [Update: I found and read the manual. They want the xmitter antenna mounted outside the aircraft, on the belly. That kind of presumes a metal aircraft, for shielding from the receiver antenna on the unit inside the cockpit. Will be interesting to see how well it works on fiberglass airplanes. Even with a small piece of metal for a ground plane in a fiberglass plane, I don't expect that will give the isolation they want.])

On your aluminum case for the Pi - I wrapped mine in copper foil. But a case sounds more elegant. Did you bend it yourself or is there a place to buy them?

The VP+EX uses 978 Out on a seperate antenna. Three In/Out antennas in totally, well 4 if you cound the GPS and 5 if you cound the AutoSquawk. The key antennas 978 Out, 978 In, 1090/ES In. The 978's are timed so the 30w "out" on 978 is only for 1ms each fuel second.

The Pi is not bad for an In solution, but unless you have an ADS-B out, you are not seeing anywhere near the pull traffic picture. Only other ADS-B Out planes and "piggy backed traffic. It takes the ADS-B Out to trigger the Full Traffic for your "Service Volume" a 15nm radius and +/-3500 area around the ADS-B Out Client location. Full Traffic includes Mode C, Mode S, 978Out and 1090/ES Out.

The transmit and receive works great on fiberglass planes. I've sold many of the VP+EX to GlassAir, EZ, CT, and other composite planes. It's not really for the isolation so much as for the interferrence of metalic surfaces. The Transmit "Out" is pinging the ground station and the best place to reduce interference is the buttom. The Receive "In" can be above or below, though I recommend splitting them somtimes depending on real estate, aircraft type, speed. The 978 "In"receives ground station Traffic and WX, so the bottom is the optimal place, but the 1090ES "In" is really aircraft to aircraft so the top/bottom is fine. Obviously above is best fo the GPS. Metallic surfaces attenuate the 978 and 1090, so reducing that shadowing is best for long distance RX and TX.

If you don't have ADS-B Out, I recommend getting it and you'll be amazed at how much more is out there. I hope this helps.

Ps: Bought the aluminium case for under $10.

Personally, I think ADS-B in without ADS-B out is probably worse than no ADS-B. I feel it gives many pilots a false sense of security. I bought a Dual XGPS170 and quickly sold it on Ebay and bought a SkyGuard transceiver.
