Sam,

If I am not mistaken the Radenna is an ADS-B receiver. The ADS-B out is a transmitter that will cost much more to inpliment and basically tells everyone both on the ground and in the air where we are and what we are doing. This new system will replace the ground based method of using radar to see where we are.

At this point in time GA aircraft have untill 12/31/2019 to have this equipment installed and operating to enter anywhere we now need a transponder.

Sam,

Correct, it's ADS-B Out that is stated for the 2020 deadline, ADS-B In is actually not noted in the doc. The ADS-B In/Out is basically a GPS enable replacement to the current transponder. Many companied have pushed the ADS-B for WX.

ADS-B In/Out will actually provide Traffic (Transponder functionality) and Live Weather. The ADS-B signal consists of a 2 part transmission, FIS-B or Flight Information, and TIS-B or Traffic Information. If all aircraft have an ADS-B In/Out, it really is quite impressive, that all will have WX and Traffic capability. Additionally GPS accurate Traffic which offer much more accurate positions than the typical TCAS.

Basically "any aircraft operating in airspace where a Mode C transponder is required today, will also be required to carry an ADS-B OUT transmitter. The FAA is not mandating ADS-B IN systems with this rule.

The rule does not impact the current transponder requirement – meaning aircraft will continue to be required to carry their transponders in addition to this requirement for ADS-B Out equipage after 2020."

Shane,

Does AP have any plans to work with an ADS-B in/out device? Here in Mississippi we don't have the equipment in place to provide the coverage for traffic right now so an ADS-B out device may not really help me for traffic. Additionally, I don't know how many other aircraft in this area have ADS-B transmitters that would "wake up" the system so I'm afraid that I would see very little traffic. I want to acquire a device to work with my iFly 700 but I don't want to buy the device if it's not going to provide both the weather and traffic features consistently.

I don't mean to trounce Shane, but the iFly works perfectly with the Navworx ADS-600B -- today.

Sam,

Yes, Neal actually has a NavWorx ADS-600B transceiver and he is finding it to work great with the iFly. We also have a few other and they report good feedback as well. There are some improvements to be made, but at this time they two devices are working well together. We feel there is always room for improvements.

Neal can probably elaborate more on some specifics since he is flying with the iFly and the NavWorx transceiver.

Neal, thanks for the great feedback and recommendations. Our thanks to iFly owners like yourself.
