Hi All.

I did a quick search, and I didn't find the exact answer.  I have a 740b for my Sonex (it's driving the AP)... and iFly GPS in my phone. Is there an easy way to transfer a flight plan from the phone to the 740b?  Needless to say, the 740 is hard mounted... would love to be able to do it via BT or WiFi.

Thanks.

Yes.  First, make sure both devices are on the same wi-fi network and iFly is running on both.

Then, on the phone, from the main screen, tap Flight Plan > More Options > Share/Export Flight Plan... > Share across local network..., make sure the "Auto-Share Changes" box is checked, then tap "Share Plan".

On the 740, look for a popup box asking you to confirm you want it to accept the shared plan.

From then on, any changes you make on the phone will be reflected on the 740.  (Sounds like you may only be doing a one-time push from the phone to your 740 at the start of the flight.  If so, then you could uncheck "Auto-Share Changes" and it'll just be a one-time push.)

To be clear: "on the same network" doesn't necessarily mean you need to have a "normal" WiFi access point (e.g. a router). It just needs to be a WiFi connection that the phone and 740b can both connect to. For instance: an ADS-B In device in your plane that uses WiFi to send data.

Another option that may work: using the WiFi Direct feature that your phone (probably) has. That might provide the 740b with a "network" to connect to (or it may require a WiFi Direct capability that the 740b doesn't have). But even if it does, I'm not sure if iFly GPS on the phone would "see" the network. Might work though. I've never tried this feature on my phone, so I can't speak to whether this a general-purpose small-LAN capability that would solve your issue. Somebody else can maybe chime in on this.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure that putting your phone into hotspot mode (assuming you can) will not work. Although that would definitely give the 740b something to connect to, I have a suspicion that it will not allow iFly GPS on the phone to see that network.

I should try these last two options out sometime...

Thanks for the responses guys.  My Sonex is not quite finished… but I was thinking about this the other day.  I want to mount the 740b into the panel… but then I started to think…. “Is that dumb?  Will it make it harder to do flight plans?”  (I plan on making a panel mount SD card slot so I can swap the update easier when I go for a flight)   I’m glad it will work.  As and FYI… I have an EchoUAT for ADS-B, and I just activated my 740b and an app in my phone.  I’m a rusty pilot, and am just getting back into the sky now. I believe the Warrior I’m renting has a Stratus in it… I will see if I can get them to talk across that.

Thanks again
