By the way, I don't understand why SYNC and SHARE are found in different menus. Yes, SHARE is for flight plans only (I think). But the idea of sticking anything from one iFly into another iFly seems the same, regardless of whether it's a flight plan, a user waypoint, a flight track, or anything else.

I think SYNC implies upload/download settings etc. via iFly servers over internet to sync settings across devices. Would not be done in flight. More of a settings function. Requires network with internet connection to talk to servers.

SHARE on the other hand just uses network for peer-to-peer direct sharing of plan etc. (no internet connection needed)

So likely why made made sense to bury sync within settings but share more in flight-plan area for use while operating.

That's my guess and I think the distinction/separation makes sense if Im stating the distinction correctly,

Alasdair has it right. The two mechanisms are different enough that it makes sense to keep them separated. Sharing is peer-to-peer, in the moment. Synching is to-the-cloud-and-back, and can be done across time. Keeping them in separate menus helps reinforce that they are very different techniques to exchange data between devices.

If you can make the space (I know the Sonex panel is tight), I highly recommend mounting in an Airgizmos or similar "quick detatch" mount instead of a fixed permanent mount. There are times it might be more convenient to update maps and such by just popping the SD card out and taking it home with you, instead of having to sit in your airplane to do them over wifi. Plus it gives you instantaneous access to all the cabling at the rear of the device if you need to troubleshoot issues.

I have the AIrgizmos mount in my airplane and it's pretty slick.
