Are you using the position lights power wires, or do you have to run a new circuit to your fuses box?

Ciao

Note that you still have to have a working mode C transponder - so now you have two of them . . .

I was trying to find some testimonials from real-pilot, unaffiliated  and unrelated customers. So far, I've not been able to, but if anyone does have access to feedback and critiques, that would be helpful.

It's relatively new, so not expecting much, but would be helpful to see/hear what customers say about installation and operations of this device.

Is it really THAT easy to install?

Who can install it and it still be categorized as "certified"?

Is the faa validation/certification ops flight test similar?

Ops in flight?

Many other Q for users when one comes up on-line...

Mike

The SkyBeacon isn't shipping yet, so you won't find any testimonials.

The complication with installing a traditional ADSB is you must run a wire to a GPS antenna which needs visibility to the sky.  Another wire to a belly antenna which needs visibility to the ground.  And of course you need to run power wires, and many devices require a connection to your altitude encoder.

The SkyBeacon uses existing nav-light power wires, and because of it's position has clear visibility to the sky and ground so those antennas are simply built in.  And it monitors your transponder's broadcast to get the altitude and squawk code, so no need to wire that up.

I think the complication would come if you don't have a traditional wing-tip light (ie, flush mounted).  Or if you have strobes, you'll need to wait for a SkyBeacon with Strobes to be released.  So it's not for everybody.    But I'm confident in uAvionix as a company - they have been putting out some really high quality stuff, and have consistently demonstrated a quality focus and are driven to deliver products, so I'm very comfortable recommending their stuff.

Walter,

Great answer, thanks.

Many of us on the low-end of the aircraft-owner spectrum are really excited about this product/option from a cost/value perspective.

The savings on installation alone could be in the thousands of dollars.

Thanks very much, and we sincerely hope this comes to pass in Feb 2018 when/if the FAA certifies the device.

Regards, Mike Marra, N714AJ
