I'll give this forum another go, as I'm sure Shane gets inundated with emails from peeps, and I'm one of them. I've gone unanswered here before, so I'll assume that noone could help.

?#1 So with the many that most likely have my setup, which is the 720 with skyguard pro xceiver with the 1090es option, what model and from which company should I look at an ahrs module for my current setup? I'm currently learning IFR in my X 9A and I feel this redundancy would be priceless.

?#2...At what point should I consider having a 2nd display, such as the ipad mini? I can't imagine having my vfr sectional, with overlayed ifr chart, then adding ahrs display all on the smallish 720, and then having it fail for whatever reason. Too many eggs in one basket. What are some of you doing, as far as with additional "tablet type unit". Or if I'm missing something with the 720,, plz advise. I'm considering an ipad mini for a knee board (to replace the paper and pen style) and then use this also for one of the charts. I want to keep the "business" in the clouds to a minimum. It must be smooth, if you know what I mean. . Give me your thoughts.

Given the information you've provide, this is what I'd suggest. Since you already have the 720 and Vision Pro w/ 1090, I think the Vision Pro with AHRS is out. This would give you adsb and AHRS in one WiFi unit. If you wanted to sell your current Vision Pro, you could pickup the AHRS model, but that might be too much of a hassle for some.

On to the AHRS, I recommend the Levil G-Mini, it's WiFi and can connect to your 720 using the USB to Serial cable. You'll probably need to connect wired to the 720 due to connecting WiFi to the Vision Pro.

Finally, I think now is the time to add an iPad mini to your mix. I say this because, Apple just approved our iFly GPS for iPad. You can add an iPad option to your subscription for only $20 more and update both your 720 and iPad on the same subscription.

Additionally, this would also allow you to choose to connect your ADS-B to youR iFly 720 and iPad via WiFi, and then connect the Levil G Mini to the 720 using the USB while connecting WiFi to the iPad. This would give to dual screens with a similar interface and functionality for ADS-B and AHRS.

Hello Shane. I spoke with Don and he'd work a deal with me on the ahrs unit, however it would not have the 1090 MHz feature. (I'll assume that a handful of the aircraft I saw were that of that frequency, so I'm not sure I'd want to get rid of that) I am expecting to be able to use this for 2020, so if that would be required, then that is outta the question. With that said, what do you think of this.?If you want me to give you a call, let me know.

As for the 1090, it is really not needed if you fly under FL18. It's kinda become a marketing ploy.

Technically, if you are using a transmitter, 978UAT or 1090ES, you are requesting a traffic "Service Volume" for your position from the ADS-B ground station. In that service volume data from the ground station, you should get Mode C, S, 978 and 1090 traffic.

Having a Dual Band receiver would really only be of benefit for receiving 1090 Air-to-Air, or basically when you are not in range of an ADS-B station or above FL18. I personally use the AHRS model, and see Mode C, Mode S, 978 and 1090 traffic when I am in range of the ADS-B station, which most of my flying is in ADS-B coverage.

The 1090 might add some extra coverage, but most of the time you should be in range as the system is being built out pretty nicely by now.
