I was doing a cross country yesterday with a student who has Foreflight (tried to sell her on iFly wthout luck), As we approached our destination, a little meesage appeared on screen telling us the AWOS frequency at our destination. IPretty neat feature IMHO.

I figured (seeing as iFly is just better!) that we could do a step further. Have a popup with user definable parameters that pops up at <user definable> NM from (landing) destination. You could include frequencies, METAR, Runway info, TPA, etc, but have what shows (or not have anything show) definable by the user.

+1  That's a good idea.

This is a different, but related idea: (if this sidetracks your thread, I'll move it) I requested a long time ago for the ability to set a popup(s) along a route with a user-provided message.  (Or maybe it could just be a selectable option for any waypoint to popup a user-provided message.)  The point of it was to provide a reminder to oneself at a particular point along the route.  To do something, or look at something, or be at a specific altitude, or make a radio call, or whatever at a particular point.  This would be especially helpful for fly-ins, which often require different procedures/altitudes when flying into that airport that day.

I would like to see that ability, as well as your easy automated popup.  But I'd rank yours higher.

I whole heartly agree and thought this would be a cool and flexible option.

To save realestate on the screen it could be a shared instrument icon tied to the vst.   for example. it would swich every say 5 seconds(selectable) between vst, awos,( ctaf, approach, tower depending on type of airport and freq avail). The instrument could be shared with vst or standalone based on user settings.  It wold use same criteria as vst to show on the screen depending on distance to target, time to target, etc.  it would only take up space when needed
