The most common pilot deviation is altitude busting.

My wish: A button that allows a pilot to input any altitude such as an ATC assigned altitude.

When the aircraft climbs or descends within 300' of this altitude a red warning appears on screen. A tap anywhere on screen removes the screen warning and the altitude from the warning selection.

This could be tied in with the target altitude instrument.

What I would like to see is a button completely independent of the flight plan that could be used at a moments notice to enter any assigned altitude.

Further usability enhancement:

1 altitude button.

Opens a field to contain the altitude.

Below the field opens an oversize numeral pad for easily entering the altitude with an Accept and a Cancel button. This pad has numerals 1-9 plus 0, 00 and 000.

The altitude is entered accept or cancel are pressed and the screen returns to normal.

and feed this altitude to the target altitude instrument and the VST instrument would then tell you to start a climb or descent to this new altitude at X fpm, and your flight plan would be amended accordingly.
