I don't know if this is general or iOS specific.

Using simulator mode to familiarize myself with some features, I set up a flight to a nearby airport. At a point in the flight, I was alerted to begin my descent. The alert fired based on a target descent rate of 620 FPM. is that 620 a fixed value or can I change it? I looked around the app and couldn't find a setting for it.

Mark, your vertical speed to target (VST) is dynamic. Given your distance to target, speed and altitude, ifly will announce the required descent rate based on those values. In other words, if you don't descend when given the rate of, say 620 fpm, the closer you get to your target the faster the VST will be to arrive there.

Climb rate and descent rate are user inputs on the Aircraft Profile screen that you set up.  It can be different for each aircraft.  Tap Menu/Setup/Edit Aircraft.  If you have the VST (Vertical Speed to Target) instrument on screen, it will light up before you reach the desired vertical speed, and you will get the popup alert when the desired climb/descent rate is reached.

Thank you Jeff, I think that's what I was looking for. I actually changed it when I set up my aircraft profile. Does it go back to a default value in simulator mode? I'll have to check again.

Greg, thanks for the reply. I wasn't looking for the VST - yes I know that's dynamic. It was the advisory about reaching the TOD based on the descent profile.

I don't use the simulator so I'm not sure how it works.  I would think it works exactly as if really airborne, but it might can get confused by immediate changes in the aircraft's location and altitude, as in resetting a location to fly an approach, etc.
