Whenever I plug in my power source to update, my iFly 740 goes straight to the iFly GPS page vs to the selection page like it did when I first purchased it. Then I have to go to

. Then it searches for a WiFi but never seems to lock on to my primary at home one. So then I have go to the Selection page and click Settings and manually click my home Wifi from a list it has memorized. Then I have to go back to the Update page and finally click to update my weather. Now I go to the iFly GPS setting and click on my home airport and get " No METARS on this Field" or other airports in the area even though I just updated the weather. If I turn it off and back on magically with weather will show at airfields.

Another issue is when using the charger power cord, just moving the cord will bring up the SHUTDOWN or CANCEL page. I don't have this issue with the hardwired power cord in the aircraft.

Anyone else having these issues?

UPDATE: Oops I just found the Common Support Inquires page and will see if a fix is there. I would have deleted this post but there is no "delete" button.

If you haven't found it, get yourself to the selection page, go to Settings>Screen. There you shouldhave three options for startup. Main, iFly GPS, iFly Streets. Set it to Main and the iFly will open to the "Windows" selection.

The 740 has wifi connection issues when it maintains a list of "known" wifi access points. Try deleting all the known access points and starting over. It's frustrating but that's what I was told to do when I had similar wifi issues with the 740, and I use about 10 access points. Hopefully they're working on a firmware release to address this. The "shutdown" message seems to indicate a loose or sketchy cord or connection and is momentarily putting the 740 on its internal battery. Others have mentioned the internal battery doesn't hold a charge, and the 740 wants to power off instead of running on the internal battery (I have this issue too, to the point of having a new internal battery installed but the issue remains). In one post you've run across two of the few weaknesses of an otherwise peerless device. I've never seen the weather update issue you mention, and Mike D. told you how to fix the boot screen issue.

Mike D......Many thanks, that fixed problem of getting to the Main Page!

Jeff....I was able to delete all the "PRE" and that fixed my home WiFi connection issue and I believe it fixed my airfield weather issue as well. I also had an early internal battery failure and the iFly staff (aren't they the best!) replaced my unit. The charger cord plug is not as robust as the plug that is on the hard wired power cable. I can live with it for now. I like your term "Peerless" when describling the iFly 740. I could not agree more and there is not a bigger promoter of their GPS on Van's Aircraft Forum (VAF) than I.

On my wish list is a flight time record of each flight like my Garmin 495 has.

Thanks guys for your prompt reply.

Not sure what you mean by "record of each flight" because I've never seen what a 495 has, but iFly DOES record the flight path of each flight. It takes a few steps, but you can upload that flight file to GPSVisualizer.com, set a few options, and it'll spit out a file that can then be tossed into Google Earth and voila - there's your flight path depicted.

A few years ago I wrote a VBA program in Excel that would process these flight logs and update my logbook. It could log the airports I landed at, determine if it was a day/night landing and how many, track day/night flight hours, and a few other things. all gleaned from the iFly log. It had a few bugs, such as if I rebooted in flight it was logged as two flights, and sometimes an outlier GPS point would get logged that put me two states over for half a second, messing up the distance traveled. One of these days I'll finish it up and share it, but I haven't looked at it in a year or so and it's not very high on my priorities.
