Foreflight just came out with geo referenced approach plates on Friday, but at a higher yearly subscription. I believe Foreflight is buying the geo reference info from Seattle Avionics who has the info in their own EFB and is selling it to other entities. I don't know the number of IFly700 users who are eager to have their plates geo referenced, but I believe it is very good to have when doing any IFR approach.

Agreed that this would be a HIGHLY desirable upgrade. There are lots of threads on IPAD/Foreflight vs IFLY and this gives Foreflight an edge. People seem overly enamored with the utitlity of IPAD and try to rationalize that it's an all encompassing aviation aid when, in reality, it is way too glitchy for serious, stand alone, cockpit use. The new foreflight issue of price (now $150 a year with georeferenced approach plates), will reduce the ship jumpers from Jepp but may move a few folks their way from IFLY who want that capability.

With a delta in the cost of a supscription of $70+ per year and a GPS enabled iPads higher cost, is the Foreflight/iPad really targeted at the same market as the iFly? The difference in the subscription price is 14% the cost of the base unit (every year). If you already have an iPad or are planning to get one....

My opinion is worth every penny you paid for it...

They may not target it that way BUT it IS the same market. There's only so much room in a cockpit and it's doubtful you'll see pilots with both devices since they are large & there's a lot of duplication. Also, the cheapest IPAD is $499 plus $99 for external GPS (cheaper & better than internal). With the pro subscription at $150, that's 25% subscription to base cost annually.

I have an IPAD, but so far anyway I still prefer the IFLY because it's size fits into my cockpit environment better. It sure would be nice to have the geo referenced charts though.

I have heard that the GPS in the IPAD isn't great for aviation. Some people recommend getting the small bad elf gps that plugs into the iPad.
