I'm not sure if it's some setting I've tripped, or if iFly is confused. In any case, I now have a purple donut around my home airport, with the runway visible in the center. Also, the center isn't smoothly drawn, it consists of short segments of connected lines. Think pentagon inside a donut, only with more points.

Anyway, it's pretty annoying, and I can't find (or think of any reason to have) a setting that would create something like this. Do I need to re-install iFly, or just RTFM more carefully? I have done a complete database update, no change.

Thanks,

Bob

That is the "RealView" feature of iFly. For airports that don't have FAA-published diagrams (i.e., smaller airports), iFly contains overhead photographs of the airport that are used instead. The magenta "circle" is just a border for the photograph.

You can manually pull up the RealView of an airport by centering the map over an airport and zooming way in, or by pulling up the Airport Info page and pressing on the runway outlines. (Note that if an FAA diagram exists and you click on the runway drawing in the Airport Info screen, you'll get the diagram overlaid onto the photo. You can also get to the FAA diagrams (if they exist) by touching the airport on the map, then "View Plates", then selecting Airport Diagram.)

If the photo is appearing spontaneously, then you probably have iFly's "AutoTaxi+" feature enabled. If this mode is enabled, then iFly will try to sense when you are on airport grounds at less than flight speed. When those conditions are met, iFly will automatically present the FAA airport diagram or the RealView photo, and show your current location on the diagram/photo (both the diagrams and the photos are georeferenced). The swap to this diagram/photo could occur when you first power up iFly on the ramp, or after your landing rollout when your speed drops low enough, and is intended to assist you as you taxi around the airport.

If you do not want the diagram/photo to automatically appear when you're at the airport, go to Setup->Map Settings, and make sure the box next to "Enable AutoTaxi+" is unchecked.

If AutoTaxi+ is not enabled and you see the photo but want it to go away, simply zoom out a little bit until it disappears.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Cobra. Is there a way to turn off RealView? I've turned off AutoTaxi, and the ring is still displayed. From your explanation, it sounds like it's non-negotiable. When I zoom in to a certain level, it's going to be there. I really, really dislike this 'feature'. Having 50% of my already-limited 8" screen covered with purple nothingness becomes more annoying by the minute.

Robert, can you please post a screenshot here, or email one to us at support@adventurepilot.com to ensure we fully understand what you are seeing, requesting "attention of Brian" to ensure I get it.

We are already starting up a discussion about how we might accommodate your concern. But to be sure, we really need to see a screenshot.

The airport realview is an octogon and the 700 agl class E airspace around an instrument runway can look like a purple doughnut.

What is your airport identifier?
