Has anyone heard what impact the sequester is having on charts and AF/Ds? Will this hasten the cost increases being proposed? Better yet, are they going to issue new charts to account for closed towers? My home base (KALN) is one losing its tower and we've heard nothing regarding changes to airport operations to-date.

You don't really think government would think that far ahead! :D

If I am not mistaken, Tom, the A/F Directories already list the "unicom" freq to use when the tower happens to be closed. When published, they just didn't foresee permanent closures en masse. What will make this more confusing as to which towers are closed and when, is that the FAA is going to invite local communities to opt to pay to keep the towers open at their local airports. I guess we'll just have to rely on the NOTAMS. ==== Ralph

My bet is that whatever the A/FD lists as the CTAF will continue to be the CTAF. Today most non-towered airports have a "CTAF/Unicom" listed. My currently towered airport has a CTAF of 135.000. Below that listing is the Tower of 135.000. When the Tower is closed, we revert to the CTAF, the same frequency. So, I bet most airports will see no change in the frequency used.

The tower closure that caught my eye is the one at OSHKOSH! Surely that tower will be in operation during the EAA fly-in, don't 'cha think? Otherwise they may have to change the name of the big event to "Air-ADventure." === Ralph
