Now it seems to work OK with the auto-connect. Sitting in my den, the traffic range appears to be only about 10 to 15 nm. Not near as robust as the Stratux. I'm sure it's much more in the air. We'll see.

Does anyone know the meaning of the red, yellow, and blinking red lights on the ping?

Once the Ping is up and running "Red" flashes indicate 1090 data reception and "Green" flashes indicate 978 data reception (aircraft or ground). Not sure there is a yellow.

On the reverse side of the board there is a small "Blue" LED that will blink when data is sent to a Wi-Fi client - that could be regular status/heartbeats or traffic/weather. You should see that blinking when a client has connected. I hope this helps.

Switched from a 2.1 to 2.4 mah battery and range increased to 20 nm (in my den).

I'm think that might be coincidence or a stronger transmitter on a plane. They can range from 20w up to 200w. According to contacts at uAvionix, the pingBuddy runs optimally on less than 200mAh. We tested this at OSH, seeing traffic 20+ miles away with it plugged into the side of the iFly 740, low power USB. This was while on the ground in our rental home and at the show.

According to them, there is no performance improvement with 1, 2.1 or 2.4 amp powers. Makes me wonder if one of your batteries was noisier than the other. Or if they were tested at different times, maybe the atmosphere was ripe for signal transmission. Hard to say.

I'm just passing along the power details from the ping guys. I've got a pretty good working relationship with them.
